Teach For Qatar’s participation at the 2015 World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), which falls on the 4th and 5th of November, will include a presence at the “Meet Qatar Zone”, a panel discussion, as well as a simulated class at the “Learning Lab”.

As a local NGO working as part of the solution to help solve some of the challenges Qatar’s students face, Teach For Qatar’s participation at WISE 2015 is a good opportunity to connect and work together with individuals and organizations pursuing similar objectives from all fields of the public and private sectors, in order to offer recommendations and to discuss solutions to the challenges facing education systems locally and globally.

With education reform and innovation in the MENA region and Qatar being a key topic at this year’s Summit, Teach For Qatar’s participation as a local initiative is crucial to showcase part of the progress and some of the challenges faced in Qatar.

At this year’s Summit, Teach For Qatar will participate in a panel discussion titled “Qualified Teachers for Quality Learning”, taking place on Thursday, November 5th, between 10: 45 am and 12:00 pm. The Panel focuses on the importance of well-trained and highly motivated teachers, who are the foundation on which a quality education is built. The panel will discuss ways to attract, train, and retain a new wave of teaching professionals, and the implications this poses for policy makers. The panelists are Mohammed Abdullah Fakhroo, CEO of Teach For Qatar, Professor Tan Oon Seng, Director of National Institute of Education in Singapore, and Ms. Mervi Jansson-Aalto (Finland), Director of Omnia Education Partnership in Finland. The panel is moderated by Greg Toppo, education reporter at USA Today.

Additionally, Teach For Qatar is participating in the “Meet Qatar Zone”, taking place on Wednesday, November 4th, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, and on Thursday, November 5th, from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. The Meet Qatar Zone is an area within the Majlis, with a lounge style set-up allocated for Teach For Qatar. It will provide WISE participants the opportunity to mingle with the staff and Fellows to know more about the organization, its mission and vision, the challenges faced, and its achievements so far.

Finally, Teach For Qatar is also a part of the “Learning Lab”, which is a vibrant space dedicated to original and stimulating practical experiences of what it means to learn creativity and skills for today’s world.

Since 2009, WISE has brought together decision makers, influential experts and practitioners at an annual Summit in Doha, to explore groundbreaking innovations and take concrete steps to make significant improvements to worldwide education.

The two-day Summit offers a convivial environment for interactive discussions with speakers, experts and members from the WISE Community. Attendees are given an opportunity to collaborate, share best practices and challenge their thinking during interactive sessions and debates, with focus sessions highlighting innovative practices or projects.
