Welcome to Teach For Qatar

If you’re here, it means you’re interested in finding out more about how you can make a positive impact in a student’s life. This decision has the potential to change your life and could be the opportunity you’re looking for to give back to your community, and shape Qatar’s next generation of leaders.

  • What is the leadership journey?

The Teach For Qatar Leadership Journey is a two-year full-time teaching job in one of Qatar’s public schools. During your two-year commitment, you will be assigned to teach one of four subjects – Arabic, Math, Science, or English – to students in grades 3 to 9 at a public school, based on your major.

  • Who is eligible?

We are looking to recruit, train and place passionate and committed individuals who are eager to positively impact the lives of public school students. Eligible candidates should be Qatari Nationals or long term residents of Qatar, having lived in Qatar for 2 or more years and must be fluent in spoken and written Arabic.

*Take this quiz to find out if you’re an ideal candidate for this program.

Your eligibility to teach specific subjects is dependent upon pre-defined criteria from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Teach For Qatar cannot make any changes to this criteria in any way, or make any exceptions when it comes to shortlisting candidates whose majors do not match the criteria.

  • How will we equip you for this journey?

Embarking on a new career can be daunting, but at TFQ we have put together a curriculum of learning which will equip you with the skills and strategies needed to take on this challenge. Your training will start with a comprehensive 7 week training program known as Summer Institute (SI) where you will learn more about what it takes to teach. Together with your peers, you will put those skills to test at Camp Qatar, teaching classes of up to 30 students. You will continue to develop both your teaching and leadership skills throughout your two-year Leadership Journey with monthly professional development days and ongoing mentorship.

  • What does this journey look like?

Your journey at Teach For Qatar starts with your application to the program found on this page. Take the time to comprehensively answer each question since it will determine your next step. If your application is successful, you will be invited to attend a Subject Knowledge Test (SKT) to assess your understanding of subject specific content. The last step of this process is the Assessment Center, where you will be assessed on your teaching potential and ability to work cohesively in a group.

We are unable to accept applications from candidates who have previously studied education and/or are qualified teachers.

Candidates currently employed by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education are ineligible to apply.

If you have worked as an unqualified teacher or teaching assistant in Qatar or abroad in the past, it must have been for less than 2 academic years. You will be asked to provide confirmation of the duration of your employment as an unqualified teacher or teaching assistant.

Teach For Qatar’s Leadership Journey is a two year, full time training program that starts with an intensive 7 week Summer Institute and continues with ongoing training and support for the duration of the journey.Summer Institute is a rigorous training program that includes theoretical and practical teacher training. Additionally, it is during Summer Institute that Fellows form a relationship with their individual Training Specialists who will guide them through their Leadership Journey.

Teach For Qatar also provides Fellows with ongoing training through monthly Professional Development Days, Learning Circles and other forms of activities to continue to enhance their skills and address any needs Fellows identify throughout their journey.

The Leadership Journey begins after the successful completion of the 7-week Summer Institute. This program includes classroom practice, in-depth sessions, and subject-specific training designed to prepare Fellows for teaching.
Fellows who complete the Summer Institute are then placed in schools to begin teaching as part of their two-year Leadership Journey.

Failure to successfully complete the Summer Institute means you will not yet be ready to begin teaching at the start of the academic year and therefore will not be able to continue in the program. Candidates are always welcome to reapply in the future.
The Leadership Journey is a full-time, two-year commitment, after which we encourage and support you to continue contributing to education as part of our Alumni community.

Our Fellows are recruited and trained to teach one of those subjects. The subject chosen for each Fellow is based on criteria defined by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to teach those subjects.
